BUSINESS PRACTICES
Realizing the goal of net zero emissions will require the work of both individuals and businesses. Below are some steps you can take as a business owner or employee to help our community reach this goal.
-
Check out our Community Procurement Guideline - a collaboration of SNO, The Big Sky Chamber of Commerce, and 10 local businesses - that acts as a resource to inform sustainable purchasing practices.
The EPA defines containers and packaging as products that are assumed to be discarded the same year the products they contain are purchased. Containers and packaging make up a major portion of municipal solid waste, amounting to 82.2 million tons of generation in 2018 (28.1% of total generation). Reducing packaging or using packaging made from upcycled materials reduces the need for new resources and keeps waste out of landfills.

B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. Read about becoming certified here.
-
Educate employees on SNO’s incentive program, One Less Car through Go Gallatin, where employees can carpool with a coworker or friend, ride the bus, or take a vanpool 4 days per month, log their trip, and get a gift card from a local Gallatin Valley business each month they complete the challenge.
-
It’s integral to increase the resilience of water resources to thrive through climate stressors, such as drought, water shortages, and flooding. Check out the Gallatin River Task Force for information on indoor rebates, and outdoor rebates. Check out Alpenscapes for comprehensive local landscaping resources.
Yes Compost offers commercial services and a free 2-week trial, in addition to bucket exchange subscriptions and home service subscriptions.
