Projects, Outreach, and Community Engagement

COLLECTIVE ACTION

The goal of Big Sky Sustainability Network Organization (SNO) is to facilitate the community's responsible stewardship of this beautiful and unique landscape. With a mission to preserve and protect Big Sky through advancing environmental and sustainability initiatives, SNO’s efforts focus on projects and programs that shift collective habits to enrich environmental stewardship based on data-driven needs. Below, you’ll find summaries of current and past projects, which fall under all the 4 Targeted Improvement Priorities (TIPs) in the Big Sky Community Climate Action Plan: Energy & Buildings, Consumption & Waste, Transportation, and Natural Environment.

SNO PROJECTS

GOGALLATIN

GoGallatin and SNO have collaborated in community engagement of sustainable transportation alternatives: riding bikes, carpooling & bus services. Working with a team of MSU grad students in the Fall of 2021, their combined efforts produced a qualitative data survey and analysis of commuters in the Gallatin Canyon. They aim to increase sustainable transport with both employers and employees in Big Sky with incentivizing programs and outreach.

MOUNTAIN PROJECT 2030

“Launched in 2019, Mountain Town 2030 set out to leverage the leadership and learnings of Park City (the first mountain community to commit to net-zero carbon emissions by 2030) to inspire and guide other mountain and outdoor communities to achieve the same ambitious goal quicker. MT2030 is a climate accelerator for mountain and outdoor communities, building capacity and empowering them to achieve zero-carbon emissions.”

PROJECT PARTNERS

The work we do would not be possible without the help of many community partners. The organizations listed below have all had a hand in our achievements to date. Successes are made possible by their investments, and their belief in our vision for more sustainability wins throughout the community.
